R U Ok Day 2025 💛

R U Ok Day is a day to remind people to check in with their loved ones and start conversations to end the stigma on mental health

R U Ok Day is a very important day to us as sadly the veterinary industry is facing a mental health crisis.
This is due to many reasons including:

-Emotional fatigue.
-Long hours and lower pay compared with human counterparts.
-Client abuse.

We are using it as an opportunity to remind everyone of the fantastic work @sophies.legacy is doing to campaign for the veterinary mental health crisis.

Next time you are in the clinic, please remember we too are human and are just trying our best to provide help and care to our patients 🩷

Take a look at this recent feline oral surgical case 👀

On the initial awake exam the vet noted quite inflamed gums (gingivitis) and some teeth that looked questionable.

Once the patient was under general anaesthetic, Dr Lin was able to look closer, and what she found was a very very tiny wound where a tooth was supposed to be. This would not have been found in an awake patient.

What Dr Lin didn`t know was whether the entire tooth was gone, or if it had snapped and left the root inside the gum.

That is where dental x-rays are crucial. Dr Lin was able to take a radiograph and see that the root was still present, so she knew to go in and get it out.

Doing this will help the kitty be pain free and prevent infections.

Meet Alice ☀️

Alice has recently started here at Dr Paws as a receptionist and trainee nurse.
She is currently studying animal studies with plans to commence her certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2026.

While originally from rural Victoria, Alice has done a lot of Australian travel and previously was working in a clinic up in rural Western Australia.

Say hi next time you see her around the clinic! ☺️
